The International Atomic Spectrometry Association awarded 4 students (Cameron Stouffer, Ayush Agarwal, Hana Koprivova and Mina Nikolic) who have excelled in the area of Atomic Spectroscopy. The winners presented their work at SciX Conference 2025 in Covington, Kentucky, USA.
Frank Vanhaecke wins the best keynote lecture award at EWCPS2025
A jury consisting of PhD students has selected Frank's presentation as best keynote lecture at the 2025 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in Berlin, Germany.
Aline Pereira de Oliveira wins the flash presentation runner-up award during the ICP-TOF-MS session at EWCPS2025
Aline's flash presentation entitled "Gelatin-based microdroplet calibration approach for gold nanoparticle analysis in plant tissues by laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-time of flight mass spectrometry" was selected as runner-up award winner at the EWCPS2025 ICP-TOF-MS session.

Thibaut Van Acker wins the 2024 JAAS Emerging Investigator Lectureship
Thibaut was elected as winner of the 2024 JAAS Emerging Investigator Lectureship. This award recognizes early career researchers, within 10 years of their PhD, who have made a significant contribution in the area of atomic spectrometry, in their independent academic career. This recognition comes with the opportunity to present a plenary lecture at the 2025 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in Berlin, Germany, and membership of the International Advisory board of Journal of Analytical Atomic Spectrometry – JAAS, the Royal Society of Chemistry’s central journal publishing innovative research on fundamentals, instrumentation, and methods in the determination, speciation and isotopic analysis of (trace) elements within all fields of application.
Iker Basabe-Mendizabal wins the best lecture award on the 5th ToFCON meeting
Iker’s lecture entitled “High-resolution multi-elemental mapping at 1 kHz via LA-ICP-ToF-MS” was selected as the best at the 5th ToFCON meeting on time-of-flight ICP-mass spectrometry, organized by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing – BAM in Berlin, Germany. This selection came with a free ticket to attend the 2025 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in Berlin, Germany.
Delphine Losno wins the best lecture award on the 2024 Spectr'atom meeting in Pau, France
In her lecture, Delphine presented her work on neodymium isotopic analysis in the context of the traceability of critical raw materials used in the production of permanent magnets. This work was carried out in the context of the EU-funded MaDiTraCe project on Material & Digital Traceability for CRM Certification.
2023
Frank Vanhaecke wins the 2023 RSC Theophilus Redwood Prize

Frank received the 2023 Analytical Science open Prize: Theophilus Redwood Prize for the development of inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) based methodologies for elemental, isotopic and single-event analysis. The Theophilus Redwood Prize is awarded for outstanding contributions to the chemical sciences in the area of analytical chemistry. Next to receiving a medal and certificate, Frank was also invited to present his work at universities in the UK and Ireland during a short lecture tour and to give a plenary lecture on the SCIX 2024 (the great Scientific Exchange – FACSS 51) conference in Raleigh, NC, USA.
Thibaut Van Acker wins the 2023 European Rising Star Award for Plasma Spectrochemistry

Thibaut was the winner of the 2023 European Rising Star Award for Plasma Spectrochemistry. The European Rising Star Award for Plasma Spectrochemistry honors and promotes outstanding contributions of upcoming younger scientist at the beginning of their career within the field of plasma spectrochemistry. The award was given to Thibaut during the 2023 Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He was also invited to present his work under the form of a keynote talk, entitled “Pushing the Limits of Elemental Mapping via Laser Ablation – ICP-mass spectrometry with a Nanosecond 193 nm kHz Laser.”

Eduardo Bolea-Fernandez wins the Young Investigator Award in Plasma Spectrochemistry
Eduardo received the 2022 Young Investigator Award in Plasma Spectrochemistry. This award is given to a young scientist who has made noteworthy contributions to the field of plasma spectrochemistry, either over a sustained period of time or through a single, significant breakthrough. Eduardo received this award at the Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in Tuscon, Arizona to which he was invited to present his work during a plenary lecture.

Marta Costas-Rodriguez wins the 2019 JAAS Emerging Investigator Lectureship

Eduardo Bolea-Fernandez wins the IUPAC-SOLVAY International Award for Young Scientists

In 2018, Eduardo’s PhD dissertation, entitled “Method development for ultra-trace elemental and isotopic analysis using tandem ICP-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS/MS)” was selected as one of the 5 winners of a IUPAC-SOLVAY International Award for Young Scientists. His dissertation was the only one selected for this award in the field of Analytical Chemistry and he was the only winner from Europe.
2017
Frank Vanhaecke wins the 2017 Lester Strock Award from the Society of Applied Spectroscopy SAS
Frank was selected as winner of the Lester Strock Award, which is given by the New England Section of the Society of Applied Spectroscopy – SAS in recognition of a selected publication of substantive research in, or application of analytical atomic spectrochemistry in the fields of earth science, life sciences, or stellar and cosmic sciences. Frank received this prize during the 2017 SCIX Conference in Reno, NV, USA, to which he was invited to present his work in a plenary lecture.
2011
Frank Vanhaecke wins the 2011 European Award on Plasma Spectrochemistry
In 2011, the European Plasma Award was presented to both Professor Frank Vanhaecke (Ghent University, Belgium) and Professor Alfredo Sanz-Medel (Univeristy of Oviedo, Spain) for their significant contributions to plasma spectrochemistry. The European Plasma Award is sponsored by Agilent Technologies and is awarded for a single outstanding piece of work or for continued important contributions in the field. The award was presented to the winners during the opening ceremony of the 2011 European Winter Conference on Plasma Spectrochemistry in Zaragoza, Spain.
